James White
Custom Guitars

It’s so hard for me to believe that I’ve been pursuing my passion for building great guitars for over forty years. During that time I have studied and mastered the art of building classical guitars true to the Hauser style. Following the folk/singer-songwriter movement of the seventies I began building steel-string guitars. I love building both.

I build six, seven and eight string versions of both my classical and steel-string guitars to your desired scale length with 12 or 14 frets to the body using tone woods of your choice (I have an excellent stash of well-seasoned top, back, & side woods). On my steel-strings I do a 00, and 000, an OM as well as Dreadnought and Baritone body sizes.  Cutaways done upon request.

How I Do Business

Warranty

My guitars are guaranteed against defects in materials and craftsmanship for the life of the luthier (wish me good health). Of course I can’t be responsible for normal wear, abuse, neglect, or natural disaster. Humidity control is the customers responsibility. I also cannot be responsible for the occasional tendency of Brazilian and African blackwood rosewoods to develop hairline fractures despite decades of proper seasoning.

Periodic maintenance is the responsibility of the owner and is a condition of warranty. Appropriate care accessories are included in the purchase of each instrument. Repairs or alterations performed by someone other than myself may risk cancellation of this warranty. Transportation expenses are the responsibility of the owner.

Change Orders

Once an order is placed any design or material changes will result in a change order and may bring about additional charges. This could include a portion of, or your entire initial deposit depending upon the changes. I make every effort to accommodate my clients and always strive to be fair with you, but I must be fair to myself as well, changes affect my time, schedule, and outlay for materials.

Payment

A 50% deposit is expected at the time of order. Remainder is due upon completion of the instrument. Shipping and insurance are additional and I will not ship an instrument without adequate insurance. All transactions must be in U.S. funds: credit card, electronic wire, certified bank draft, money order, PayPal, or cash.

Returns

After fifteen days of receipt, if an instrument proves unsuited to the player, it can be returned for the purchase price, less the original deposit. If not in new condition, the cost of restoration will also be deducted. Reimbursement of any remaining monies will follow immediately upon resale of the instrument.
